The Abdus Salam School of Mathematics Sciences, also known as School of Mathematical Sciences, abbreviated as ASSMS, is an academic and technologically advanced research institute of the Government College University Lahore, Punjab province of Pakistan.[2] Partnered with Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission (PAEC), the institute is named after world renowned and prominent Theoretical physicist and Nobel laureate Professor. Abdus Salam, dedicated to the advanced of Mathematics and, contributing in Mathematical physics.[2]

Overview

Professor Abdus Salam, Pakistan's only Nobel Laureate, played an influential role in Pakistan's Science policy, as he was responsible for the establishment of numbers of research educational institutes in his country, particularly the prominent institute, the Pakistan Institute of Nuclear Science and Technology (PINSTECH). Salam, an alumnus of the Department of Mathematics of the Government College University, played a major role in updating the University's educational curriculum and also taught Mathematics there.

In 2003, an advice taken from PAEC's Asghar Qadir, the Government of Punjab, created and led the establishment of center of excellence for the Mathematical Sciences, under the auspicious of Government College University.[3] The institute became country's largest post-doctoral and mathematical research institute and has been named as world's one of the most premier institute.[3] While, its faculty is from Foreign countries, particularly from Eastern Europe, the institute managed the world conferences on the theme "21st Century Mathematics".[3]
