Abbubaker Mobara (born 18 February 1994) is a South African football (soccer) player who plays as a defender and midfielder for Ajax Cape Town in the Premier Soccer League.[1]

Early life

Mobara, who hails from Mitchells Plain on the Cape Flats, started playing soccer at his school and was spotted by Ajax Cape Town scouts after scoring for his local club against them in a cup final.[2]

Early career

Mobara previously underwent trials with FC Twente, FC Porto and RC Lens before returning to Ajax Cape Town. Mobara also spent time with AFC Ajax but was not signed.[3]

Style of play

His agent Rob Moore, the former agent of Steven Pienaar and Benni McCarthy said “He’s the best back four talent to come out of South Africa for years, His style is similar to a right sided Ashley Cole – technically very strong, good control and dribbling skills, and great recovery pace which is essential for a modern fullback against increasingly quicker wingers. He has good build for a fullback, with a very relaxed style on the ball and a good disciplined aggression off it."[4]

International career

He has caps at U17, U18 and U20 levels for South Africa.[2]
