Abaz Hoxha (born 14 April 1930) is an electronic engineer, researcher and film historian, pedagogue of Academy of Arts & the “Marubi” Academy of Film and Multimedia where he teaches The History of the World Cinema, Member of Editing Board of Arts and Architecture of the Academy of Sciences for compilation of Albanian Encyclopedia, Co-Founder of the Albanian Cinematography, Founder and for 17years the Director of The National Albanian Film Archive-Member of International Federation of Archive of Film-FIAF) since 1963, Member of Scientific Council of Albanian State Film-Archive, He is member of the League of Writer's and Artist's since 1978 and in this context he have written many scenarios for documentaries, television and feature Films such as: "The meteor shined in the screen" (John Belushi) and many other television program's, the script of the film "The Illegal" etc.
Biography
Born in Tragjas village of Vlora district in an intellectual and patriotic family in April 14, 1930. He participated in Antifascist National Liberation War since early age of 14. He graduated at the High Technical School of Tirana as a geometer and completed high studies in Prague, Czech Republic, where he have got laureates as an electronic engineer. At the same time, for 2 years attended a post-university course concerning film's, radio's and television's studios, where was mainly specialized in acoustics and optics. He worked in Albanian Cinema as Sound engineer, Chief engineer, Chief of Department of Distribution and import-Export, Director of the State Film Archive- Member of the International Federation of Archive of Films - FIAF, since 1963. He has experience in a wide range of activities in many cinema fields.
As pedagogue
He compiled texts, teaches and instruct and also directed many courses to prepare the technical staff of the cinemas.Teacher and instructor in Tirana High Culture School. Teaching in post university courses in Albania Film Studios and as a Mentor of many students of Academy of Arts in Tirana. Teaching as Professor of History of Albanian and World Cinema in Academy of Arts& in “Marubi” Academy for Film and multimedia in Tirana.
As engineer
He prepared program's and technological projects and directed the construction of many cinemas in various districts all over the country and the construction of Cinema studios in Albanian Cinema Center in Tirana. He have prepared program, technological project and directed the construction of the building of National Film Archives of Albania in Tirana.
As archivist
He compiled many indexes and contents, Filmography of Albanian and foreign newsreels, directed the works of gathering of the documents and written materials for the foundation of the National Cinema Museum and its Scientific Library, organized and run many Photo-exhibitions during the period 1969-1987, set up the organization structure of the Scientific-informative apparatus of the archive etc. He is the promoter for the adhesion of the Film Archive of Albania to the International Federation of Archives of Films (FIAF) in 1963 and he have given a huge contribution to the foundation of Albanian Television in 1960 and the foundation of Symphonic Orchestra of Cinema and Radio Television in 1963 etc.
As researcher
For a long Time he made the research work in many Libraries and archives in Albania and abroad /Italy, Macedonia, Austria, Denmark a.o) for films shot in Albania by foreign cinematographers in beginning of last century and found many documents and films that shine the history of Albania.
As publicist
He have founded and directed the magazine (“Buletini Kinematografik”,"Bulletin of the Cinema" from 1967-1972 and the first magazine of American-Albanian Academy of Arts “Arberia”(1998). He have published many essays and studies concerning the extension of the cinematography, the preparation of the personnel, the extension of the cinema network in the whole of Albania (1958-1990). He have published over 150 of articles in the many organs of central press "Zeri i Popullit" (The voice of the people), "Skena dhe Ekrani" (The stage and the Screen), "Drita" (The Light), "Gazeta Shqiptare" (The Albanian newspaper); "New Albania" etc. about Albanian and World Cinema and his personalities such as: D.W.Griffit, Ch.Chaplin, E.von Stroheim, C.T.Dreyer, G. Garbo, Fred Aster, John and James Belushi brothers, Manaki brothers, Stan Dragoti and Albanian and world Cinema (Scandinavian countries, French, German, American, Indian cinema etc.). He have also directed and spook in many radio and television program's about the history of Albanian and world cinema and their best known figures in Albania, Macedonia, Italy, England, Denmark, Greece etc. such as: The rubric "One chronic one Theme" (6 program's), "A miracle of the Seventh Art"(5 program's), "The train of passions" (8 program's), "The Lumiere's of the Balkan" (Manaki Brothers) etc.
