Abílio António Gomes Novais (born 24 August 1967) is a Portuguese retired footballer who played as midfielder.
Over the course of 13 seasons, he amassed Primeira Liga totals of 342 matches with 46 goals, mainly at S.C. Salgueiros.
Club career
Born in Vila Nova de Gaia, Porto District, Almeida started his professional career with U.D. Oliveirense in the third division, reaching Leixões S.C. two years later and helping them progress into the top flight. After a brief spell at F.C. Porto, he arrived at S.C. Salgueiros, where he would spent the majority of his career, with a one-year interruption in 1994-95 to play for C.F. Os Belenenses.
After more than 130 caps at Salgueiros, he joined S.C. Campomaiorense for the 1999–2000 campaign, leaving after one season and signing with C.D. Aves for his last top flight campaign, ending his career in 2003, at age 36, and starting one as coach.[1][2]
