A Monster Calls is an upcoming American horror fantasy film directed by Juan Antonio Bayona, based on the 2011 novel of same name by Patrick Ness, who also wrote the screenplay. The film stars Lewis MacDougall, Liam Neeson, Felicity Jones, Sigourney Weaver, Toby Kebbell and Geraldine Chaplin. The film is scheduled to be released on October 14, 2016, by Focus Features.

Production
On March 5, 2014, Focus Features bought the film rights to the book for $20 million.[1] The film will be directed by Juan Antonio Bayona and written by the book's author Patrick Ness.[2] On April 23, 2014 Felicity Jones joined the film to play the boy's mother.[3] On May 8, Liam Neeson joined the film to play the Monster.[4] On August 18, Sigourney Weaver joined to play the boy's grandmother.[5] On August 19, Toby Kebbell also joined the film.[6] On September 3, author Ness tweeted that Lewis MacDougall had been set for the lead role in the film.[7] On September 30, Geraldine Chaplin joined the cast.[8]
Filming
The principal photography on the film began on September 30, 2014,[9] the shoot would take place in Spain and England.[8][10] On October 9, the filming began on location in Preston, Lancashire and Manchester.[11]
Release
The film is scheduled to be released on October 14, 2016, by Focus Features.[12]
