ANZAC Girls is an Australian television drama series that first screened on ABC1 on 10 August 2014. The six-part series tells the rarely told true stories of the nurses serving with the Australian Army Nursing Service at Gallipoli and the Western Front during World War 1.[1] The series is based on Peter Rees' book "The Other ANZACs" as well as diaries, letters, photographs and historical documents.[2] The series was written by Felicity Packard & Niki Aken, produced by Screentime, and filmed in South Australia.[3]

Olive and the others begin their work on the Greek Island of Lemnos, caring for the wounded who arrive from the Dardanelles with limited supplies and support from the Australian Army. Elsie fights to be able to provide proper care for Syd in Egypt.

After the Gallipoli evacuation, the Lemnos nurses have returned, but all the nurses are then sent to France as fighting on the Western Front intensifies. There is prejudice from the British Imperial Nurses to contend with, the first anniversary of ANZAC Day, and Olive begins to question her relationship with Dooley. Alice receives shocking news from the Front.

Alice struggles to comprehend the news she receives in the wake of an Allied assault in Fromelles. Olive's work at the clearing station brings matters of death, love, and duty to a head. Hilda and a handful of nurses are given the opportunity to work in anaesthetisation, and the arrival of the Croix Rouge leads to the return of a familiar face as another departs.

Alice and Hilda start work at a clearing station close to the Front, and Elsie follows Syd to the Front. Tensions run high as the final push begins, and our nurses face new dangers. But finally, the Great War reaches its close as Armistice is declared, and we discover what became of our ANZAC Girls.
