The ACT Fire and Rescue (previously known as ACT Fire Brigade) is the urban fire and rescue service for the Australian Capital Territory. It along with the ACT Ambulance Service, ACT State Emergency Service and ACT Rural Fire Service are part of the Australian Capital Territory Emergency Services Agency (formerly the ACT Emergency Services Authority).

By 2011 the ACT Fire and Rescue maintained nine stations with more than 330 staff operating 34 vehicles 2011.[2]

Stations, vehicles and special responsibilities

Belconnen Fire Station

Fyshwick Fire Station (No. 1)

Vehicles: Scania Pumper, Bronto Aerial Platform, Heavy Water Tanker, Logistics Vehicle, Platform On Demand (POD) Truck, Various PODs and HazMat Response Vehicle.

Ainslie Fire Station (No. 2)

Vehicles: Scania Pumper and Breathing Apparatus Support Vehicle.

Phillip Fire Station (No. 3)

Vehicles: Heavy Rescue Pumper and USAR Cache.

Special Responsibilities: All road rescues south of Lake Burley Griffin, may attend incidents further north if required.

Belconnen Fire Station (No. 4)

Vehicles: Scania Heavy Rescue Pumper.

Kambah Fire Station (No. 5)

Vehicles: Series 5 Pumper, Heavy Tanker, Light Tanker

Special Responsibilities: all vehicle rescues in the ACT, remote area rescue, training and maintenance of Vertical Rescue skills for all ACT Fire Brigade personnel.

West Belconnen Fire Station (No. 6)

Vehicles: Scania Pumper, Heavy Tanker, and Light Tanker.

Chisholm Fire Station (No. 7)

Vehicles: Scania Pumper, Remote Area Road Rescue Vehicle, Vertical Rescue Vehicle, and Confined Space Rescue Trailer.

Responsibilities: Incidents on Monaro Highway south to ACT/NSW border

South Tuggeranong (was Greenway) Fire Station (No. 8)

Vehicles: Scania Pumper, Large and Small CAFS Tankers

Gungahlin Joint Emergency Services Centre (JESC) (No. 9)

Vehicles: Scania Pumper, Large and Small CAFS Tankers

Equipment

ACT Fire and Rescue maintains an extensive inventory of equipment to deal with a range of fire, rescue and hazchem duties.

The Brigade are capable of high rise fire fighting and occupant egress using the "Bronto" Hydraulic Platform, an advanced platform capable of reaching up to twenty stories. As buildings are now being developed in Canberra that exceed the height of the Bronto, a replacement is due to be chosen in coming months.
