Owner UKRD Group

96.4 Eagle Radio is an Independent Local Radio station in West Surrey and North-East Hampshire area of England owned by the UKRD Group. The radio station, based in Guildford, Surrey, was the brainchild of Mike Powell, previously the Managing Director of West Surrey and North-East Hampshire's County Sound Radio. 96.4 Eagle Radio's current Managing Director is Paul Marcus.

Peter Gordon (PG), the current breakfast show presenter and programme director, launched 96.4 The Eagle at 7:45am on 4 January 1996, with the words "Hey... I've landed.". The first song was 'Uptown Girl' by Billy Joel. It launched on DAB Digital Radio on 12 December 2013.

The station is mainly aimed at a family audience with chart songs being played at least 5-6 times an hour. There is also a good mix of older songs from the 70s, 80s, 90s and 00s. Music features include "The 7 at 7". In its broadcast area its listenership outstrips London rivals like Capital 95.8 and Heart, relying on local news and travel information. Eagle Radio has a sister station covering the same broadcast area, Eagle Extra,[1] which plays a greater variety of classic pop and rock songs. They also run eagle3, which launched in December 2013 and is available online and on DAB. eagle3 provides 'Music in the moment' including live sessions from local acts.

The Love Crew

Eagle Radio has its own Promotions Team named 'The Love Crew'. These people promote the station on the streets and around events in the Surrey and Hampshire area dressed in Eagle Radio T-Shirts and Jackets. Instead of using their real names, Eagle Radio has given them nicknames to use to make them stand out. These names are also used by the DJ's when promoting events. They are often joined by the station's mascot, Eggbert the Eagle.

The Station that loves Surrey & Hampshire

Eagle Radio currently uses a marketing campaign for the station using the term 'Love'. This is shown on Stickers; On Air Intros; Cars amongst others. (.... being the name of your town. Novelty stickers have been produced as well. If a listener's car is spotted with a sticker in the window and read out on air, they have 96.4 minutes to call in and claim £50 of free petrol.)

£1000 Minute

Every weekday morning at 8:15am on the Peter Gordon Breakfast Show, listeners are asked to call in for a chance of winning a grand. If they are selected they automatically win the album of the week but then get the chance to answer 10 general knowledge questions. They have a minute to answer all the questions and if they get them all right within that time, they win £1000.

Grand Weekend

In 2011, Eagle Radio launched the fifth season of the ever-popular "Grand Weekend" competition. The mechanic involves a featured musical artist who has songs played at 9am, 12 midday and 3pm on Saturday and Sunday. Listeners are encouraged to call in to register their participation. Then, on Monday morning at 07:45 as part of the breakfast show, Peter Gordon rings one of the registered listeners who must answer the call by saying the name of the Grand Weekend artist. If they do they win GBP 1000.

Eagle Extra

Eagle Extra is an Independent Local Radio station in the Surrey and North Hampshire area of England owned by the UKRD Group.[1] The radio station, based in Guildford, Surrey, plays a variety of classic pop and rock music as well as community programming. It is the successor of County Sound Radio. Its sister station is 96.4 Eagle Radio.[1] In November 2014 Ofcom approved a request from UKRD Group for the licence's format to be changed so Eagle Extra could be closed and 1566 kHz turned into an additional relay for Premier Christian Radio.[2]
