916 is a 2012 Malayalam drama film written and directed by M. Mohanan, starring Mukesh, Anoop Menon, Malavika Menon, Asif Ali and Meera Vasudev. The film is about maintaining the sanctity of familial relationships.[1]

Plot

916 as the name suggests focuses mainly on the pure relationship between a single parent, Dr. Harikrishnan(Anoop Menon), and his dear daughter in 12th grade Meera(Malavika Menon). It narrates a set of events when two closely knit families lose their balance, one is that of Harikrishnan's and the other is Dr. Ramesh's (Mukesh) which consists of his wife(Meera Vasudev) and two children. While Dr. Harikrishnan is an altruist who considers his profession as a means to serve the society, Dr. Ramesh thinks otherwise. Prasanth(Asif Ali) is a simple man, who reacts to unethical issues, and is against the whole internet culture enters their lives as a youngster who had a specific degree and was searching a good job. The movie comes to a twist when Meera goes missing. The rest of the events form the crux of the story.

Reception

916 got mixed reviews upon release. Kerala9.com gave the movie 2/5 stars, ending with a verdict "Not up to the mark; no ‘916 purity’…".[2] theaterbalcony.com gave 68% and said that "It is great that 916 tried to bring lots of social awareness, however there should be an equal importance to the entertainment factor too, however the later was missing from 916 most of the time" [3]
