The 3rd Marine Artillery Regiment (3e RAMa) is the heir to the 3rd Marine artillery regiment created in Rochefort by consular decree of Napoleon Bonaparte on 13 May 1803 and the 3rd Colonial Infantry Regiment of the 3rd Marine Artillery regiment.
The 3e RAMa has been present either a unit or as sub-units on almost all the battlefields where French forces have been engaged.
History
- Self-propelled artillery group of the divisional artillery of 2nd Armoured (Vernon since 10/01/1945)
- I/3e Marine Artillery Regiment, the artillery regiment of the 10th Armoured Division at Verdun on 1 July 1984.
- Artillery Regiment of the 6th Light Armoured Brigade on 1 July 1999.
- The regiment participated in two tours in Bosnia with UNPROFOR.
Current Satus
Since 1 July 1994 the Regiment has provided the manoeuver regiment of the school of artillery based at Canjuers, the largest military training camp in Western Europe. The soldiers man 155mm towed guns, 120mm mortars and that the CAESAR self-propelled howitzer. As a Regiment of the prestigious 6th Light Armoured Brigade, its mission is cannon or mortar fire support, intelligence gathering and coordination of air and naval fire support. Engaged in experiments with battlefield digitization, it is equipped with the ATLAS system and is constantly deployed in amphibious exercises and operations. Its location, near the Mediterranean coast and near the largest port in the France, allows it to participate in numerous amphibious exercises
