3 Hudson Boulevard, formerly known as the GiraSole, is a supertall skyscraper approved for construction in Manhattan's Hudson Yards and Hell's Kitchen neighborhood along the Hudson Park and Boulevard in New York City. Its developer is Joseph Moinian.[4][5]

Description

It is expected to rise 66 floors and 1,060 feet (323 m) in height.[6][7] FX Fowle Architects designed the building, which would have 139,355 square metres (1,500,000 sq ft) of floor space. If completed as planned, the building would become one of the tallest in the city. The building is planned to have 1,800,000 square feet (170,000 m2) of real estate.[8] The 1,060 ft (320 m) building will feature a 22-degree twist in its western and eastern facades, to represent the fact that Manhattan's street grid is slightly rotated.[1]

Construction was supposed to begin in mid-2014[1] or 2015,[2] with the building's completion planned for 2017.[1][2][7][8] The building, directly across Eleventh Avenue from the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center, would abut the secondary entrance to the new 34th Street subway station, being built as part of the New York City Subway's 7 Subway Extension project.[9][1][10] Consequently, the foundation is being built by the Metropolitan Transportation Authority, because the subway station is directly underneath; the rest of the building is being built by Moinian Group.[6]

On June 26, 2014, Joseph Moinian secured a loan for the construction of the building.[9]

The building's former name, Girasole, means sunflower in Italian.[11]

Energy efficiency

The developers of the building are hoping to get a LEED Platinum certification for the building when it is completed, owing to its eco-friendly design.[2] "Green" strategies include wind harvesting, rooftop farming, heat recovery, solar shading, photovoltaic electricity, regenerative elevators, Energy Star-efficient appliances, ice storage, and natural lighting.[2][12]

Floors

When completed, the US$800–900 million building will also contain condominiums located on 300,000 square feet (28,000 m2) between floors 49 and 63. A "sky club" on the top two floors, with swimming pools, greenery and foliage, terraces, event spaces, meeting rooms, and areas for dining, drinking, and lounging, will be made accessible to residents upon the building's completion.[2]

The layout of the building floors will be as follows:[2]
