"38 Years Old" is a song by Canadian rock band The Tragically Hip, released as a single from the band's second studio album, Up to Here. The song was written in Memphis during their recording of the album.[1]

It is a fictional account of a real-life escape of 14 inmates from Millhaven Institution in the band's hometown of Kingston, Ontario on July 10th 1972. [2] [3] The date and number of escapees mentioned in the song is incorrect ("12 men broke loose in '73..."). This was done for purpose of rhyming with the next line of the song ("...from Millhaven maximum security.") The song peaked at #41 on the Canadian RPM Singles chart.[4]

The song is featured in the 2006 Canadian comedy film Trailer Park Boys: The Movie, and also appears on the film's soundtrack.
