24/Seven is the third studio album released by American boy band Big Time Rush, released on June 11, 2013 by Columbia Records before the group's indefinite hiatus. The album is a more uptempo and traditional pop sound from the band but still incorporates similar melodies to their previous sound. The band worked with producers Matt Squire and Damon Sharpe, as they had done in the past, in an effort to mature their sound yet not stray away from their well-known qualities. The four members co-wrote twelve songs (including five deluxe edition bonus tracks) with several hired songwriters. The album was preceded by the release of the promotional singles "Like Nobody's Around" and "Confetti Falling".

"24/Seven", the album's title track, was released as the lead single on June 19, 2013 along with its music video. The album received mixed reviews from critics, and debuted at number four on the Billboard 200.

Background

Beginning on April 26, 2013, Big Time Rush began releasing photos for various songs on the album via Instagram and Google Plus. The band revealed the track list for the album on April 29, 2013 in the magazine Entertainment Weekly.[2][3]

Composition

Musically, 24/Seven brings back the traditional boy band pop that was featured on the previous two albums, BTR and Elevate. However, the album marks a departure from the more electronic and dance oriented sound of Elevate, incorporating more guitar production and lighter beats. Also in contrast with the previous two releases, the latter contains music that was written primarily by Big Time Rush as opposed to other songwriters. With the exception of the songs "Like Nobody's Around" and "Love Me Again", each song on the album was either written or co-written by a member of the band. There are two guest appearances on this album: pop rap duo Karmin appears on the track "Song for You", and rapper Jake Miller appears on "Lost in Love" on the deluxe edition of the album. The first version of the song "Love Me Again" was written by Big Time Rush, but Nickelodeon altered the song to be more "kid-friendly".

Singles

"24/Seven" was released on June 19, 2013 along with its music video. The song was written by Damon Sharpe, Logan Henderson, Kendall Schmidt, Jeremy Skaller, Jamil "Digi" Chammas, Justin Lucas, and Ameerah Roelants; it was produced by OMFG and Sharpe.

Promotional singles

The album was preceded by the promotional single "Like Nobody's Around", which saw its music video premiere on Vevo during the 2013 Kids' Choice Awards. The song became available for digital download on April 30, 2013 when the album was released on iTunes for pre order.
