The 2016 AFC Futsal Championship will be the 14th edition of the AFC Futsal Championship, the biennial Asian futsal competition contested by the men's national teams of the member associations of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC). The tournament will be held in the Republic of China between 9–20 February 2016.[1][2] The tournament was originally scheduled for 12–27 March 2016, but this was changed following the adoption of the FIFA futsal international match calendar.[3]

This tournament will also be a qualification event for the 2016 FIFA Futsal World Cup to be held in Colombia, with the top five teams qualified to this tournament.

Group stage

If two or more teams are equal on points on completion of the group matches, the following criteria were applied to determine the rankings.[4]

  1. Greater number of points obtained in the group matches between the teams concerned;
  2. Goal difference resulting from the group matches between the teams concerned;
  3. Greater number of goals scored in the group matches between the teams concerned;
  4. Goal difference in all the group matches;
  5. Greater number of goals scored in all the group matches;
  6. Kicks from the penalty mark if only two teams are involved and they are both on the field of play;
  7. Fewer score calculated according to the number of yellow and red cards received in the group matches;
  8. Drawing of lots.

Knockout stage

In the knockout stage, extra time and penalty shoot-out are used to decide the winner if necessary (no extra time is used in the third place match).[4]
