2013 HHSAA State Football Championships

The 2013 HHSAA State Football Championships was a series of two high school football games played on 23 November 2013 at Aloha Stadium, Honolulu, Hawaii to determine the 2013 football champion of the HHSAA Division I and Division II. The games feature the finalists of the 2013 HHSAA Division I and Division II tournaments.

The Division I game was between the Interscholastic League of Honolulu (ILH) champions Punahou Buffnblu and the Oahu Interscholastic Association (OIA) champions Mililani Trojans. Punahou defeated Mililani 28-22. With the win, Punahou improved to a perfect 11-0 record. This was Punahou's third straight championship game appearance (falling both previous times to Kahuku) and first win since 2008 (vs. Leilehua). Mililani and Punahou met earlier in the season on August 8, where the Buffnblu defeated the Trojans at Mililani 24-14.

Punahou

The Punahou Buffnblu enterd the game 10-0 and ranked #1 in the Interscholastic League of Honolulu (after defeating conference rivals Kamehameha and St. Louis). Punahou received the #1 seed and first round bye in the state tournament. Punahou defeated OIA Red #2 Farrington 48-6 to advance to the final game.

Senior and Hawaii commit quarterback Larry Tuileta led Punahou's flex option offense for his third and final season as a varsity starter. Tuileta was ranked second among Division I passers behind Micah Kaneshiro (Moanalua), passing for 2,353 yards on 138-of-224 prior to the championship game. Tuileta was also intercepted only 4 times during the season. Junior wide receiver Kanawai Noa was Tuileta's favorite target, amassing 1,002 yards on 44 receptions. Leading Punahou's ground game (and other half of its option attack) was sophomore runningback Wayne Taulapapa who ran for 912 yards on 139 carries.

Mililani

The Mililani Trojans entered the game 11-1 and ranked #1 in the Oahu Interscholastic Association Red Division (after defeating Farrington for the OIA Red title). Mililani received the #2 seed and first round bye in the state tournament. Mililani defeated divisional rival and OIA #3 Campbell for the third time this season 41-7 to advance to the final game.

Leading the Trojans' run and shoot offense was sophomore dual-threat quarterback McKenzie Milton. Throwing for 1499 yards on 117-of-195, rushing for 471 yards, 19 touchdowns, and 5 interceptions, Milton was ranked #5 among Division I quarterbacks coming into the final game. At his disposal was a talented receiving corps led by Bronsen Ader, Kainoa Wilson, and Bronson Ramos who combined for 1456 yards receiving. Anchoring the Trojan ground game was sophomore runningback Vavae Malepeai who ran for 1317 yards on 223 carries. Malepeai was ranked #1 among all Division I rushers and in scoring (running in 20 touchdowns).
