The 15th edition of Sukan Malaysia, a.k.a. Sukma Games was held in Kuantan, Mentakab, Pekan and some other places in Pahang. This edition was one of the best edition held by a state. Previously, it held the 1996 Edition. It was said by Minister of Youth and Sports, Yang Berhormat Tuan Haji Khairy Jamaluddin. The next edition will be held in Perlis.^[1]。

Prelude

This is the 15th edition of Sukma Games since its introduction in 1986. It was the second time the state held such a national sporting event. At that time, all states held their respective Sukma Games except for Kelantan and Perlis.

Previously, Pahang has hosted the 1996 Sukma Games. The state gained experience from the previously hosted grand national sporting event, many of the sports venues and facilities were upgraded.

Information

Mascots

The Official Mascot.

The mascots of the 2012 Sukma Games is a group of four elephants. Namely: Puteh, Rajah, Tahan and Teku, the four elephants are named after respective mountains found within Pahang. Elephant is the symbol and the state animal of Pahang which are found deep in the lush forest of Pahang. In the games, they play significant role by represent the characteristics and soul of the Pahangites namely: courage, fast, competency, friendly, smart and caring. The tusk of the elephant form the state coats of arms of Pahang.

Logo

The Logo consists of four colours. While the image of the elephant itself represents the state of Pahang as the home to elephants, the blue represents unity, the red represents bravery in facing all challenges, white represents fair play, yellow represents the thrilling sentiment and black represents Pahang as host to the games.

Theme and Theme Song

The Theme of the games is "Sukan Menjana Perpaduan" which means - Sports Generates Unity and the theme song is "Satu Tujuan" which means - One Aim. The games also had a music video of the games theme song.

The Lyrics

Music Video

The music video begins as the Sun sends a ball of flame contains a football to planet Earth and into Pahang, host of the 2012 Sukma Games (A common footage in some games mascot promo video, for example in the 2010 Asian Games and 2014 Asian Games). The ball of flame starts from one of the mascot and pass through every places in Pahang such as Mount Tahan, Cameron Highlands, Chini Lake, Fraser's Hill, Genting Highlands, Teluk Cempedak ,Kuala Lipis and Tioman Island. Each time the ball pass through the places in Pahang the mascots play different types of sports such as Swimming, Golf ,Badminton and Running. When the flame finally reach the Darul Makmur Stadium, it rests on the cauldron and lit up. The elephants bear the flag of the participating contingent arrives at the stadium and gather with the mascot. The caption of the Sukma Games edition with the mascots ends the music video. The music video lasts 2 minutes 46 seconds.

Concerns and Controversies

• On the 9th of July, 12 Johor women hockey players suffered food poisoning after taking their meals on Friday at the Games Village at Universiti Malaysia Pahang (UMP) including key players – Nordalila Ramlee and Zaimah Mohd Nasir who were recuperate at the Tengku Ampuan Afzan Hospital in Kuantan.^[2]
