2012 Malaysia Para Games

The 16th edition of Paralimpiad Malaysia, a.k.a. Malaysia Para Games was held in Kuantan in Pahang where 2012 Sukma Games was last held. This edition was the second edition held by the state. It was said by Minister of Youth and Sports, Yang Berhormat Tuan Haji Khairy Jamaluddin, the next edition will be held in Perlis.[1]

Prelude

This Games is the second games since Malaysia Para Games introduce the hosting system similar to modern day Paralympics, where host of the Sukma Games will host the Malaysia Para Games since 2010. It begins with Malacca in 2010. Pahang is the host of the 16th Malaysia Para Games.[2]

Since 1986, all states of Malaysia has hosted the Sukma Games except for Kelantan and Perlis. Prior to the 2012 games, Pahang last hosted the 1996 Sukma Games. Pahang, having hosted the 15th Sukma Games is hosting the games for the first time and many of its facilities were upgraded before the 2012 Sukma Games.

Mascot

The official mascot.

The mascot of the 2012 Malaysia Para Games is an elephant. Its name is Tapis. The mascot is named after Mount Tapis, a mountain found within Pahang. Elephant is the symbol and the state animal of Pahang which are found deep in the lush forest of Pahang. In the games, it play significant role by represent the characteristics and soul of the Pahangites namely: courage, fast, competency, friendly, smart and caring. The tusk of the elephant form the state coats of arms of Pahang.[3]
