The 2011 Torneo Apertura or LXXXVIII Campeonato Nacional de Fútbol Profesional de la Primera División de Chile was the 88th season of Chilean Primera División. That was the first tournament of 2011 Chilean football season, the defending champions was Universidad Católica, and was sponsored by Brazilian oil company Petrobras, which made their second appearance in a Chilean tournament since 2010. The season started on Friday 28 January,[1] and concluded on Sunday 12 June.[2]
Teams
A total of 18 teams contested the league, including 16 sides from 2010 season, and two promoted from the 2010 Primera B Championship.
Deportes Iquique earned the promotion to Primera División after won 2010 Primera B Championship, so that The Dragons recovered their category lost in 2009, closing a brief absence of one season.[3] However, Iquique won 2010 Copa Chile Bicentenario that automatically qualified the team to 2011 Copa Sudamericana second stage.[4]
While Unión La Calera as Primera B runners-up earned the promotion from second-tier on 5 December 2010, where Ariel Pereyra was a key player in Calera's achievement contributing with 17 goals after his retirement. However La Calera-based team returned to the top division after being absent for 25 years.[5]
The two teams promoted replaced Everton and San Luis Quillota who where relegated to Primera B at the end of previous season.

1) Colo-Colo lost three points for not present hiring files of midfielder Joan Muñoz during the game against Cobresal, so that Colo-Colo lost for walkover.
2) Deportes Iquique qualified for the 2011 Copa Sudamericana second stage as 2010 Copa Chile Bicentenario winners. They also lost three points for not submitting hiring files of goalkeepers coach Luis Villaroel during tournament's second week-match against Universidad Católica.
