2010 Sukma Games

The 13th edition of Sukan Malaysia, a.k.a Malaysia Games was held in Malacca City and some other places in Malacca. This edition was the best edition held by a state. It was said by Minister of Youth and Sports, the next edition will be held in Kuala Lumpur.^[1]

Prelude

This is the 13th edition of Sukma Games since its introduction in 1986. It was for the very first time the state held such a national sporting event. At that time, all states held their respective Sukma Games except for Perlis and Kelantan.

Prior to this games, Malacca has yet to host any Sukma Games. As this is the first time the Malaysian heritage state held such a grand national sporting event, many of the sports venues and facilities were freshly completed or renovated.

Mascot

The Chevrotain known as the mouse deer, is the state animal and emblem of Malacca. The extant species are found in forests in South ,Southeast Asia and Malacca, with a single species in the rainforests of Central and West Africa. They are solitary or live in pairs, and feed almost exclusively on plant material. It has been known in history to eliminate Parameswara's hunting dog down the river of Malacca nearby the tree where he shed while just fled from Palembang, Srivijaya after the Srivijaya Kingdom's fall. Its name is known as Tuah, named after the warrior Hang Tuah in Malacca Sultanate.

Logo

The Chevrotain is not only used as the mascot of the 2010 edition but is also depicted on the Games logo. The colours represented the state of Malacca and Malaysia. They also represent the role of Malacca in hosting the games.
