The 2009 season of the Tonga Major League, previously known as the Lion Shield, the Tongatapu Inter Club Championship and the Tonga Club Championship, was the eighteenth recorded season of top flight association football competition in Tonga with the results of any competitions that took place between 1972 and 1981, 1986-97 unknown.[1] Marist won the championship, their first and to date only recorded title and the first time in eleven seasons that SC Lotoha'apai had not one the championship.[1] Lotoha'apai finished second, ahead of Manuka in third, Ngele'ia in fourth and Ahi ‘o Ulakai ‘Ahau in fifth.[2]
