Napoli Soccer played its first season in the Naples clubs' third incarnation. Following the takeover of the defunct club by Aurelio De Laurentiis, a squad was completed in two weeks, with only a few players from the 2003-04 season being signed. The all-new team did not perform to the level of expectations, and lost out to Avellino in the playoff finals.
On a positive note, the spectator numbers were the greatest since Napoli played in Serie A 2000-01. The clubs' burst back into life provided a positive boost in the midst of the Camorra wars affecting the city during the course of the season.
