The 2002-03 NBA season was the Mavericks' 23rd season in the NBA.[1] The Mavericks started the season strong by winning their first fourteen games of the season, which was one win shy of tying the NBA record set by the 1993–94 Houston Rockets (15–0). They later finished with a 60-22 record and lost the tiebreaker with the Spurs for the division title. The "Big Three" of Nowitzki, Finley, and Nash led the Mavericks to the Western Conference Finals but a knee injury suffered by Dirk Nowitzki in the third game of the series eventually ended the Mavericks season as they lost the series in six games to the eventual champion San Antonio Spurs.
