In 2001, Roma took his third league title (after 1942 and 1983 ones): a success who repeated Lazio's achievement in previous season. Important signings were the argentinian Walter Samuel, a defender, and Gabriel Batistuta, a top striker: Fabio Capello's line-up also included Cafú, Vincent Candela, Emerson, Vincenzo Montella and the captain Francesco Totti.

Capello won Serie A once again when in last matchday Roma hammered 3-1 Parma at home: Totti, Montella and Batistuta scored.
