The 1994–95 season was Sport Lisboa e Benfica's 91st season in existence and the club's 61st consecutive season in the top flight of Portuguese football. It involved Benfica competing in the Primeira Divisão and the Taça de Portugal. Benfica qualified for the UEFA Champions League by winning previous League.[1]

Season summary

President Manuel Damásio in a surprising move sacked Toni, despite it's title winning campaign, which included the semi-finals of the 1993–94 European Cup Winners' Cup, and hired Artur Jorge.[2] The squad was then remodelled: Rui Costa was sold to Fiorentina, Stefan Schwarz to Arsenal, Kulkov, Yuran, Rui Àguas were all released, and players like Preud'Homme, Caniggia, Edílson, Paulo Bento and Dimas, mixed with lesser known players like Tavares and Nelo were hired. This season was also the last, that long-time serving players like Neno, Veloso, Mozer, Vítor Paneira, Isaías and César Brito played for the club.

In the Primeira Divisão, Benfica achieved a third place. A strong season from Porto, prevented the club from putting any opposition, losing the chance for a title renewal. A home and away loss against Sporting, plus humiliating defeats against Farense and Guimarães effectively put the club out of the title race.[3]

In the Taça de Portugal, Benfica reached the quarter-finals, before being thrown out by Vitória Setúbal with a double from Sérgio Araújo. In the Supertaça Cândido de Oliveira, the 1993 edition replay had to be played in this season, after it ended in a draw in the two previous matches. The 1994 edition also had two draws, but the replay was played on 20 June 1995, in Paris. Benfica lost both Supercups.

In Europe, Benfica made their debut in the UEFA Champions League, winning comfortability the Group C, before losing in the quarter-finals to eventual finalist A.C. Milan. Benfica had to wait eleven years to reach the knockout stage for a second time, in 2005-06.
