The 1989 Malawi earthquake, a magnitude 6.6 quake, occurred on March 10, 1989 in central Malawi.[1] At least 9 people were killed, 100 injured and damage was in the Salima-Dedza-Mchinji area.[1] About 50,000 were left homeless in Malawi.[1] It was felt strongly in much of central Malawi, Niassa and Tete Provinces of Mozambique, and parts of Zambia.[1]
