1988 Panasonic Cup

Format

Northern Territory, South Australia, Western Australia and Victoria were replaced by the 3 new NSWRL clubs (Brisbane Broncos, Gold Coast Giants and Newcastle Knights) reducing the competition to 19 teams, participating in a straight knock-out. There was a random draw for all rounds other than the Preliminary Rounds.
