Mersin İdmanyurdu (also Mersin İdman Yurdu, Mersin İY, or MİY) Sports Club; located in Mersin, east Mediterranean coast of Turkey in 1988–89. Mersin İdmanyurdu (MİY) football team has participated in Second League in 1988–89 season and finished 6th in Group B.

1988–89 league participation

Mersin İdmanyurdu took place in Group B in Second League 1988–89 Season. League played in three groups one with 17 teams and two with 18. Bottom four teams relegated to Third League, whereas top team promoted to First League at the end of the season.[1] However Group B winner was the second team of Bursaspor whose first team was in First League and took place among the relegated teams. Therefore no promotion occurred. After that season TFF decided that only one team from each group can take place in professional leagues. MİY finished 3rd with 16 wins and 43 goals.

1988–89 Turkish Cup participation

1988–89 Turkish Cup was played as "Federation Cup" with 71 clubs: 19 first league (then top division) teams; 34 second league teams (teams finished top 8 places and promoted teams in previous season ); and 17 third league teams (teams finished top 3 places in previous season). First two rounds were played in one-leg elimination system, while rest of the rounds were played in two-legs elimination system. Mersin İdmanyurdu finished previous season at 11th place in Group B, and did not participate in the Cup this season. Beşiktaş won the Cup at the end of the season.[10]
