Despite Having an early 10-6 lead, The Orangemen gave up 22 unanswered second quarter points. following which a comeback was too far out of reach for the Orangemen to come back and the Terps ended up winning by a final score of 35–18.
Although this was only the second edition, following this game the bowl had to fold due to the fact the Cherry Bowl committee found themselves over $2,000,000 in the red bringing an end to postseason college football in Detroit until 1997 when the Motor City Bowl launched and the MAC Championship Game was first played on a neutral site.
