The 1979 Detroit Lions season was the 50th season in franchise history. In the midst of what was a major rebuilding project, The woeful Lions finished the season with the worst record in the NFL and would have the first pick overall in the 1980 NFL Draft. Despite having a 2-145 record, not only the San Francisco 49ers tied with a 2-14 record, giving the worst record in the NFL.
