The 1971 Odisha Cyclone, was a tropical cyclone formed on 27 October 1971, and crossed Orissa coast near Paradip early in the morning of October 30.[1] Maximum wind speed recorded was 150 to 170 km per hour. Lowest Pressure recorded was 966 hPa near the centre of the storm.
The cyclone struck Cuttack, a city in Odisha on October 29,[2] and dissipated 2 days later. The storm surge flooded low lying areas of the Odisha coast resulting in more than 10,000[3] deaths and death of 50,000 Cattle. Hundreds of thousands of tree were uprooted. The cyclone destroyed more than 8,00,000 houses. Costal districts of Orissa like Bhadrak, Balasore, Cuttack and Jagatsinghpur were widely affected by this cyclone.
