The 1971–72 Indiana Hoosiers men's basketball team represented Indiana University. The Head Coach was Bobby Knight. The team played its home games in the Assembly Hall in Bloomington, Indiana, and was a member of the Big Ten Conference.

Regular season

Bobby Knight was in his first season as head coach of the Hoosiers. The team started 8–1 and were ranked #5 in the nation.[1] On December 29, the Hoosiers beat Old Dominion by a score of 88–86 to claim the Old Dominion Classic championship.[1] In the last ten games of the season, the Hoosiers won nine games to finish the season with seventeen wins compared to seven losses.[2]
