• Warner Bros. Cartoons closes down after the last animated short was produced.

Films released

• September 20 - Injun Trouble, the last original Looney Tunes and Merrie Melodies series was released.
• December 10 - It's Tough to Be a Bird (Disney, United States)
• In the Soviet Union that year, the most popular soviet cartoon, Nu, pogodi! was released with its first episode.

Television series debuts

• September 13 – Scooby-Doo, Where Are You!, an animated series, about a cowardly Great Dane and his four teenage friends who travel around the country in a multi-colored van solving mysteries premieres on CBS Saturday Morning (1969-1970). The Scooby-Doo franchise would go on to become a major pop cultural icon, with numerous spin-offs, direct to video movies, and two live action films.
• October – Sazae-san#Sazae-san_on_Television, an animated series, was generally topical but the main focus is always the family dynamic. Sazae-san is still on air today, and is the longest running animated and non-soap opera scripted TV series in history.
• November 12 - Hey, Hey, Hey, It's Fat Albert', an animated special based on the standup routines of Bill Cosby airs on NBC, it would later inspire long-running animated series Fat Albert and the Cosby Kids.
