The 1966 All-Ireland Senior Football Championship was played from May to September 1966. Galway, making a fourth final appearance in succession and looking to secure a "Three In A Row" of All-Ireland titles, faced Meath. The two met in the semi-final stage of the 1964 All-Ireland Senior Football Championship, when Galway triumphed with a 3-point victory. Meath were unable to stop the Tribesmen as they won by a six-point margin in the final, 1-10 to 0-07. The win completed a "Three In A Row" for the county. It would be another 32 years before Galway would win another All-Ireland title, in 1998 against Kildare.
