Notes
- Hawthorn (40pts) and Moss (32) came into this race with a chance for the championship.
- Hawthorn needed 2nd.
- Moss needed 1st with fastest lap, with Hawthorn 3rd or lower
- Lewis-Evans' engine seized and this failure sent him off the track at high speed, and his car burst into flames. He was airlifted back to the UK, but died in hospital of his burn injuries six days after the accident. This was to be the 4th fatality of the 1958 Formula One season.
