Race details
- For 1919, riding mechanics were required.[2]
- It is written that a band played the song "Back Home Again in Indiana" as Howdy Wilcox (an Indiana native) was in the final stages of the race.[3] It is believed that this the first time the song was performed at the race, which would later become a traditional fixture of the pre-race ceremonies.
- First alternate: James Reynolds[4]
