Season 1898–99 was the twenty-sixth season in which Dumbarton competed at a Scottish national level entering the Scottish Cup for the twenty-sixth time.
Overview
Dumbarton were knocked out in the first round of the Scottish Cup by East Stirlingshire.[1] For the first time, Dumbarton were required to pre-qualify for the Scottish Cup and reached the fourth round of the Scottish Qualifying Cup before losing out to Renton.
Locally, Dumbarton retained the Dumbartonshire Cup beating Vale of Leven in a two-legged semi final then Renton in the final.
Again without any league fixtures, 15 'other' matches were played, of which 6 were won and 9 lost, scoring 45 goals and conceding 45 in the process.
