- May 1 - Opening for Chester and Holyhead Railway traffic of first tube of Robert Stephenson's Conwy Railway Bridge.[1]
- August 1 - Opening of isolated section of Chester and Holyhead Railway across Anglesey from Llanfair to Holyhead.[1]
- August 24 - American barque Ocean Monarch catches fire off Colwyn Bay, with the loss of 178 lives.
- October - Completion of the North Wales Hospital (Denbigh Asylum).
