149th Street was an express station on the demolished IRT Third Avenue Line, at "The Hub". The station was originally opened on June 16, 1887. It was built three tracks and two island platforms. The next stop to the north was 156th Street. The next stop to the south was 143rd Street. When the line south of here was closed on May 12, 1955, 149th Street station became the southern terminus of the Third Avenue Line. After it became the terminal, the center track was removed and the platforms were connected into one large island platform. The station closed on April 29, 1973.
