148th Infantry Brigade (United Kingdom)

The 148th Infantry Brigade was an infantry brigade formation of the British Army. The brigade was raised in 1908 upon the creation of the Territorial Force as the 3rd West Riding Brigade and was assigned to the West Riding Division, later the 148th (3rd West Riding) Brigade and 49th (West Riding) Division respectively. With the division, the brigade saw service on the Western Front during the First World War from 1915 to 1918.

Disbanded after the war, the brigade was reformed in the Territorial Army as the 148th Infantry Brigade and continued to serve with 49th Division. During the years shortly before World War II, the 5th KOYLI and 5th York and Lancs were both transferred to the Royal Engineers and converted into other roles while the remaining units, 4th KOYLI and 4th York and Lancs, were transferred to other brigades of the 49th Division. They were replaced in the 148th Brigade by the 5th Leicesters and 5th and 8th Sherwood Foresters from the disbanded 46th (North Midland) Division.
