The 1. deild kvinnur ("1st division women") is the top level women's football league of the Faroe Islands.

The winners qualify for the UEFA Women's Champions League.

There are currently ten teams in the league; KÍ Klaksvík have won the last 15 championships (2000 to 2014).[1]

Format

With 10 teams in the league, each team plays the other teams twice in a season, a total of 18 matches per club. The last place doesn't get relegated anymore, because the pitch in the 2nd division is only 3/4 of the 1st division size.
