Środa Wielkopolska [ˈɕrɔda vjɛlkɔˈpɔlska] (German: Schroda) is a town in central Poland, about 30 kilometres (19 mi) southeast of Poznań, with 22,001 inhabitants (2009).

Overview

It is situated in Greater Poland Voivodeship, having previously been in the former Poznań Voivodeship (1975-1998). It is the seat of Środa Wielkopolska County, and of Gmina Środa Wielkopolska (a district within the county).

Środa lies on the main railway line from Poznań to Katowice (via Jarocin). There is also a steam railway which runs to Zaniemyśl, 14 kilometres (9 mi) to the southeast.[1]
