Zwieselberg is a municipality in the administrative district of Thun in the canton of Bern in Switzerland.

Geography

Zwieselberg has an area of 2.4 km2 (0.93 sq mi). Of this area, 65.8% is used for agricultural purposes, while 25.9% is forested. Of the rest of the land, 7.4% is settled (buildings or roads) and the remainder (0.8%) is non-productive (rivers, glaciers or mountains).[3]

Demographics

Zwieselberg has a population (as of 31 December 2012) of 282.[1] As of 2007, 0.8% of the population was made up of foreign nationals. Over the last 10 years the population has grown at a rate of 9.9%.

In the 2007 election the most popular party was the SVP which received 57.3% of the vote. The next three most popular parties were the Green Party (14.7%), the SPS (10.5%) and the FDP (7.1%).

The age distribution of the population (as of 2000) is children and teenagers (0–19 years old) make up 22% of the population, while adults (20–64 years old) make up 59.3% and seniors (over 64 years old) make up 18.6%. In Zwieselberg about 81.6% of the population (between age 25-64) have completed either non-mandatory upper secondary education or additional higher education (either university or a Fachhochschule).

Zwieselberg has an unemployment rate of 1.5%. As of 2005, there were 37 people employed in the primary economic sector and about 12 businesses involved in this sector. 36 people are employed in the secondary sector and there are 2 businesses in this sector. 10 people are employed in the tertiary sector, with 8 businesses in this sector.[3]
