Zulfiqarabad

Zulfiqarabad (Urdu: ذُوالفقارآباد), is a proposed new city in Thatta District, Sindh, Pakistan.[1]

The President of Pakistan, Asif Ali Zardari has directed the Sindh government to identify a million acres (4,000 km²) of land near the coast in Thatta district for the development of the proposed new city, in the memory of Prime Minister Zulfikar Ali Bhutto.

The Zulfiqarabad Development Authority plans High-speed railway in the proposed city and nearby Karachi. The plans also include hotels and seaside resorts. The schools, colleges and universities, mosques, factories and a new seaport. The plans include kilometers of bicycle lanes crisscross the city, whose population would eventually reach 10 million.[2]

The proposed location of the city is near Jhirk in Thatta district.

Controversy

Several left wing Sindhi nationalist parties including the Jeay Sindh Qaumi Mahaz and the Sindh National Movement Party have opposed the development of Zulfiqarabad.[3]
