Zindagi Gulzar Hai (Urdu: زندگی گلزار ہے) is a 2012 Pakistani romantic drama series directed by Sultana Siddiqui. It aired on Fridays at 8:00 from November 30 to May 24, 2013. The series is based on a novel of the same name by Umera Ahmad.[1]
Zindagi Gulzar Hai's premiere was scheduled on November 16, 2012 to November 30 because of PEMRA strike.[2]
Plot
The show revolves around the story narrated by Kashaf Murtaza (Sanam Saeed), who lives with her mother Rafia Murtaza (Samina Peerzada), who is separated from her husband Murtaza (Waseem Abbas) because she didn't fulfill his desire of having a son. Murtaza married another woman, who did eventually give birth to his son. Rafia supports herself and her three daughters by herself and is the principal of a government school. Kashaf, her eldest daughter, is accepted into a well-known university and is offered a scholarship. At this university, she meets Zaroon Junaid (Fawad Afzal Khan). The two have many arguments, since Zaroon is jealous of Kashaf because he has always been the best from among his peers while Kashaf repeatedly comes first in every class. Zaroon comes from a rich family consisting of his lax and patient father, an independent, attitude-filled mother (who doesn't give much time to her family due to her work) and his sister Sara(Ayesha Omar). Sara is just like her mother; she is initially engaged to and later marries Farhan but their marriage falls apart because Sara is not willing to compromise and Farhan isn't happy with a stubborn wife.
Zaroon's friends and schoolmates Asmara (Mehreen Raheel) and Usama (Shehryar Munawar Siddiqui) study at the same university with Zaroon, who is unaware that Asmara is in love with him. Asmara hates Kashaf and is incredibly jealous of her since she believes that Zaroon pays undue attention to Kashaf. Zaroon's family also likes Asmara, so they pressure him into becoming engaged to her. When he tells her he won't tolerate her partying ways and reckless behaviour after they marry, she argues with him, which later leads to bigger fights. Meanwhile, Usama likes Kashaf, but there are no signs that she likes him back. However, they get along very well. Kashaf has a friend in university named Maria who is her exact opposite. One day, Zaroon tells Asmara not to worry too much about Kashaf because she is apparently like all the other girls, and will eventually stop rebuffing his flirtations when she sees how rich he is. Kashaf overhears this conversation and belittles Zaroon, demanding why he would put her in the same category as some other girls who have no self-respect. Enraged, Zaroon almost hits Kashaf. This incident concludes with the assertion that Kashaf is no ordinary girl. Kashaf's sister Sidra marries a close family friend's son, who is a doctor leaving for the U.S. University ends, and after a year Kashaf and Zaroon meet again in a professional capacity.
Zaroon's attempts at friendship are repeatedly turned down by Kashaf, who believes that he is the same flirtatious, irresponsible person as before. Osama proposes to Kashaf, but Kashaf rejects him, saying that she doesn't want to complicate her life by getting married to someone. Then Zaroon talks to Sir Abrar, his close family friend and university professor, confessing that he wants to marry Kashaf. Sir Abrar talks to Kashaf about Zaroon's proposal. Kashaf is furious with Zaroon, thinking that his proposal is not sincere. The two meet at Sir Abrar's house, where they have a heart to heart conversation. Zaroon saves Kashaf from getting burnt by hot tea so that it falls on him and not on her. Kashaf then accepts his proposal, realizing that he really does care for her. Then the two families meet and Kashaf and Zaroon get engaged in a ceremony much simpler than the one in which Zaroon became engaged to Asmara. Zaroon gets to know about Kashaf's family pretty closely and realises that he has abandoned his faith whereas they (to some extent) still pray and practice, he realises he will never be happy until he returns to his religion, his abandonment is due to his upper class pomp and luxury (this element of the story is not touched upon again). Kashaf's mom tells her that after marriage it will be her to do compromises if Zaroon does not. Usama meets Zaroon and over hears that Zaroon got engaged to Kashaf whom he proposed lately, he gets though amazed and later Asmara messages Zaroon to stay in hell. The story over takes and they both get married, that night Zaroon tries to tell Kashaf how he has been feeling and shares some of his feeling with her and too giving her a ring. After some time Kashaf visits her home with Zaroon and there she realises of making Zaroon come in a very poor home. After marriage Zaroon and Kashaf enjoy their life very happily, on which Kashaf exclaims to get really close to Zaroon and thinks what will happen if she loses him. Later Zaroon and Kashaf have a fight, Because Zaroon came to know that Osama proposed Kashaf, this feud lasts a few months. During this time Zaroon's sister, Sara, remarries. Kashaf goes to the hospital and realises that she is pregnant with twins, hence ending their feud. Zaroon is really happy and takes extra care of Kashaf. Kashaf is initially worried of how Zaroon will react if the twins turn out to be girls. Kashaf later discovers that Zaroon was in touch with Asmara when she checks his mobile phone. She gets angry and had an argument with Zaroon. After that she leaves his house and go to her mothers house. But then Kashaf had a dream that Zaroon has sent Divorce to her.She wakes from her dream and realises that she wants to stay with Zaroon and she is really in love with Zaroon. Rafia tries to make Kashaf realise that she loves Zaroon and she should go to her home.At the same night she calls Zaroon but Zaroon had already changed the name of Kashaf's number as 'women (work)'. Zaroon was in sleep when Kashaf calls him so he does not recognize that it was Kashaf's number. He hurrily called Kashaf back and gets to know that he is having twin girls. He became very happy and Kashaf also told Zaroon that she wants to get to her home back. Then Kashaf sleeps. When she wokes she found Zaroon sleeping with her. She thought that she was dreaming. But then she realises that Zaroon is there. Zaroon wakes up. Kashaf confessed to Zaroon that she really loves him. Then Kashaf and Zaroon go to their own home. Kashaf and Zaroon had their baby girls and they had a lively life with a lot of excitement and love. They have a complete family.
