The Ziauddin University (abbreviated as ZU), is a private research university located in the suburb area of Karachi, Sindh, Pakistan.[1] The university is honored and named after the renowned educationist, Ziauddin Ahmad.[2]
Founded in 1995 by the Ziauddin Group who also managed its research and financial funding, it is one of the premium institutions of higher learning in medical and biological sciences.[3] With a strong emphasis on medical, health, and biomedical engineering, the university offers undergraduate, post-graduate, and doctoral programmes. Due to its health research, it consistently maintained its high ranking position and currently placed as one of the top institution in "medical category" by the HEC.[4] In addition, its faculty and the university itself has taken initiatives to improve the health care system of Pakistan.[3]
The university's official mission seek to commit to have a futuristic approach in imparting knowledge, skills and service rendered with the highest sense of moral uprightness and social responsibility to the nation, region and the world at large.[5]
History
The establishment of the medical college fulfilled a dream of Sir Ziauddin Ahmed (1877–1947) who had hoped to start a medical college at Aligarh Muslim University.[6] Ziauddin Medical University got the Charter of General University in 2005 and now apart from medical and allied faculties such as the Ziauddin Medical College, Ziauddin College of Pharmacy, Ziauddin College of SpeechLanguage Therapy, Ziauddin College of Physiotherpy, Ziauddin College of Medical Technology, Ziauddin College of Nursing, The University is moving forwards towards establishment of College of Media Sciences, Ziaddin College of Biomedical engineering as well as Future prospects include expansion of Faculty of Social Sciences, Arts and Information Technology.
