Zhulat

Zhulat (definite form: Zhulati) is a village in South Albania, in south-eastern Europe, on the road Tepelenë - Gjirokastër. It is part of the Cepo municipality. It played a significant role in the creation of the Albanian Nation.

Papa Zhuli

Papa Zhuli, an Orthodox priest, is considered the founder of Zhulat, as well as the founder of a version of Kanun, known as "Kanuni i Papa Zhulit" (English: The Kanun of Papa Zhuli) which would be spread later in all Laberia region under the name "Kanuni i Labërisë" (English: The Kanun of Labëria).[1][2][3]

Petro Zhulati

A landlord to have lived in Zhulat. He is believed to have lived in the eleventh century. He died in battle whilst fighting against the Byzantine empire.[citation needed] An old folkloric iso-polyphonic song mentions him fighting against Byzantine forces.[4]
