Zadkiel is a fictional character appearing in the Marvel Comics universe. He was a former Archangel in the service of Heaven and an enemy of the Ghost Rider.
Fictional character biography
Zadkiel was an archangel in God's army in charge of overseeing the Spirits of Vengeance. In order to overpower and dethrone God, Zadkiel needed the powers of the Spirits of Vengeance. Zadkiel endowed John Blaze[1] and Danny Ketch[2] with the powers of the Ghost Rider.
Zadkiel tricks Danny into believing killing other Spirits of Vengeance would free the human hosts, when their destruction actually makes Zadkiel stronger. Once strong enough, Zadkiel overthrows the kingdom of God.[3]
Zadkiel installs himself as the new ruler of Heaven, but is not omnipotent.[4] He is soon overthrown by Danny and Blaze, who return the kingdom of Heaven to God. Zadkiel is imprisoned in Hell..[5]
Powers and abilities
Zadkiel has the ability to destroy souls.[6] His angelic powers are immortality, heightened reflexes, and superhuman strength. His wings allow him to levitate or fly at high speeds. Zadkiel possesses immense reality-warping powers that approach omnipotence; he can turn rain into blood and urine, make a pregnant woman give birth to pigs, and make statues defecate.
