From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Yuxi–Mengzi Railway or Yumeng Railway (simplified Chinese: 玉蒙铁路; traditional Chinese: 玉蒙鐵路; pinyin: yùměng tiělù), is a railroad in Yunnan Province of Southwest China. The line runs 141 km (88 mi) from Yuxi in central Yunnan to Mengzi City in southern Yunnan.[1] Construction began on December 15, 2005, and was scheduled to take six years.[1] Track construction was completed in mid-August 2012[2] and the line opened to commercial service on February 23, 2013.[3] Cities and towns along route include Yuxi, Tonghai County, Jianshui County and Mengzi.[3]

Trans-Asian Railway

The Yuxi–Mengzi Railway forms the eastern branch of China's rail link to Southeast Asia. When the Mengzi–Hekou Railway is completed, trains from Kunming, Yunnan's provincial capital, will be able to travel on standard gauge rail to Hekou, on the border with Vietnam. The central branch will connect Yuxi and Mohan on the Laotian border. The western branch will extend from Kunming to Dali to Ruili, on the border with Myanmar.
