Yulman Stadium[6] is a football stadium that is being built in New Orleans for the Tulane Green Wave football program. It is currently due to have a capacity of 30,000 spectators, with 5,200 premium seats in two fan clubs - the Upper Level Club and the Jill H. and Avram B. Glazer Family Club. The stadium was scheduled to be completed in July 2014 but will likely be delayed, opening for a football game against Georgia Tech.[2][6][7][8]
The site of the stadium is the university's Uptown campus, between the Tulane baseball team's Turchin Stadium and the former site of Tulane Stadium, in what the University refers to as its "Athletic Footprint."[8] It will occasionally host high school football games for some of New Orleans' high school teams.
University representatives initially named the stadium "Tulane Community Stadium" but revealed its official name in late 2012. Richard Yulman, the former chair/owner of Serta and a member of the Board of Tulane, and his wife donated $15 million toward construction of the project, gaining naming rights to the stadium in the process. The stadium’s field will be known as Benson Field, after New Orleans Saints and New Orleans Pelicans owner Tom Benson and his wife Gayle, who jointly donated $7.5 million from the Gayle and Tom Benson Charitable Foundation.[9]
Stadium features
The Jill H. and Avram A. Glazer Family Club will be the premier club-level seating in the stadium, with 2,300 chair back seats, two club rooms, a bar, expanded concessions, and a large meeting space. The remainder of Yulman's premium seating will be 2,900 chair back seats in the Upper Level Club, covered by a canopy and with a panorama view of the New Orleans skyline. A large-scale meeting space will be located on the ground level for university use year-round. The field's endzones will feature a green and white checkerboard pattern such as that in Tulane Stadium. The entry space in front of the stadium, known as the Athletes Plaza, will be used for pep rallies and pre- and post-game activities.[3]
