Young Independence, abbreviated to YI, is the youth wing of the UK Independence Party (UKIP) and represents all UKIP members under the age of 30.[3] It is run by a council of elected members, usually elected at the annual UKIP Spring Conference.

Gay marriage row

In 2013, the YI chairman Olly Neville was fired by the party for supporting gay marriage.[4] YI's treasurer Allrik Birch, election officer Gareth Shanks, Yorkshire chairman Arnie Craven, and Yorkshire deputy chairwoman Christina Annesley resigned in protest.[5] Two days later YI Northwest Chairman and PPC for Chester Richard Lowe was also fired for supporting gay marriage.[6]
